As someone once said, if only Bob Dylan has stuck to finger-picking he might have got somewhere. This
is my own finger-style arrangement of Blowin’ in the Wind. To play in the same key as the Freewheelin’
album recording you will need to put a capo on the 7th fret but I usually play it lower than that. You
can use my tabs for verse 1 and the chorus to play along with the album but I’ve also added some extra
bridges if you want to play a longer version.
The structure of the song is very simple, based around three chords: G, C and D major. Use your thumb to
play the alternating bass notes which keep the rhythm. Where I miss out a bass note I’ve marked the beat
with an X on the tab. On the album Dylan adds a little complexity to his strumming by picking out different
bass notes and I’ve used a lot of those notes in this tab.
I very seldom play this song exactly the same way twice but I hope this tab gives a basis from which to
improvise.
